Education of a Naturopath
A naturopathic physician has had four years of graduate level education at an accredited naturopathic medical school. In a naturopathic medical school, the students learn all of the same basic sciences as an MD. In addition, naturopaths study disease prevention, wellness and holistic therapies. They receive training in clinical nutrition, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, psychology and counseling. In order to be admitted to the school, all of the ND programs of AANMC-member schools require a base of undergraduate science courses that include physics, biology, and general and organic chemistry. Math and psychology courses may also be specified. A candidate must also have a Bachelor of Science degree. In order to be licensed, a naturopathic physician must pass professional board exams.
