For many in homeopathic practice, matching the remedy to the individual's psychological and physical type is very important. Patients who respond to Ipecacuanha tend to be hard to please and can be a little flighty. They may frequently change their minds, asking for something and then deciding that it isn't necessary. They may be depressed and impatient. Physically. they suffer from nausea, possible vomiting and a tendency to hemorrhage. Nausea that is not relieved by vomiting is an indication of a need for Ipecacuanha. The nausea may be accompanied pain that is most severe around the navel. They may be oversensitive to movement.
Other indications include coughing and wheezing, and headaches. The cough is usually a dry, rattling cough that is triggered by warm, humid air. Headaches involve the entire head and are accompanied by nausea.
