A  population-based study appeared in the Journal of Internal Medicine (2006; 259(6): 583-91) looked at the effect physical activity and consumption of saturated fats had on diabetics. The 1,013 subjects of the prospective study were on medication for their diabetes. Diets were evaluated with a questionnaire. During the course of the study (4,579 person-years), 80 of the subjects died, 46 of the deaths were due to cardiovascular issues. Physical activity was found to be inversely related to mortality and high intake of saturated fats was associated with an increase in mortality.
