According to a study, published in the March 15, 2004 issue of the British Medical Journal, acupuncture can offer relief to people suffering from headaches. More than 400 headache patients from England and Wales participated in the study. They were patients who suffered from several headaches each week.

The subjects were divided in two groups. One group was treated with acupuncture, along with regular treatment. They had 12 acupuncture treatments during a three-month period. The other group received standard headache treatment alone. Those receiving acupuncture did much better than the group of patients who did not receive acupuncture. On average, they took 15% less medication and had 22 fewer days per year with a headache. They also had 25% fewer doctor visits than the group not receiving acupuncture.
